In January, it rained. A lot. I loved it.
It reminded me of one of my favorite children’s’ books, and all the days spent pretending I was the main character, hiding in a cardboard box in the rain. And just like that, I HAD to recreate the book through photos of my own little ones, images of raincoats and little red wellies danced in my head. Sadly, I soon realized I couldn’t shoot the photos and be in them, so I needed some help. The rain stopped, and I haven’t been able to plan this shoot yet (it will happen), but the idea was born:
I can create story telling sessions with my clients, based around their favorite children’s books, with them as the main characters. What a precious heirloom to have, picture books to “read” with our little ones night after night, who can then share their photo stories with their own babes one day.
Too excited to wait, I reached out to Alex of AVE Styles, a beautiful and amazing mother with a sincere heart and her sweet girl Elle, knowing they would be the perfect subjects to bring the idea to life. Being as stylish and fashion forward as her mama, Alex told me about Elle’s favorite book, I Had a Favorite Dress by Boni Ashburn, how she had read it so many times the pages were falling out! I ordered the book and used “photo shoot research” as an excuse to take a few more breaks from work and read to my kids (best job ever). It’s so cute, if you haven’t read it, I highly recommend buying it for your collection!
Alex and I hashed out our ideas and storyboard, and asked the insanely talented Meghan of Purposed Life Art to help us create the wardrobe pieces central to the story. I owe so much of how beautiful this session turned out to Alex’s styling and Meghan’s expert ability as a designer and clothing recycler. I’m working on Elle’s book now, but here are a few of her images to follow along in her story. Enjoy!
Storybook sessions are now available, please for more info.
